The Battle for your mind
Everywhere we go we are inundated and programmed by what the worlds system and whatever it’s ruler wants us to see. Ephesians 6:12 For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
Ephesians 2:1-2 And you hath he quickened who were dead in trespasses and sins: wherein time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now worketh in the children of disobedience:
Colossians 2:8- Beware lest any man spoil you through Philosophy and vain deceipt, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world and not after Christ.
Turn on the news and rarely do we see a positive story. Drive down the interstate and billboards promoting “adult” entertainment and lasciviousness abound more and more, while Christ centered music and programming is virtually non-existent. Hollywood and the entertainment industry is by far against fundamental Christianity.
Yet even our Sunday morning “worship” services are becoming more creature focused and centered around our needs and desires rather than those of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. We have taken holiness and purity out of the meeting house and have exchanged it with the trends of today. For some strange and satanic reason, many of our brethren have fallen by the wayside and have seemed to employed as their shepherds those who can best orate the feel good, get rich, motivational sermonette the world has come to enjoy.
If we as believers can’t see that this is a war not only for lost for souls but our minds as well, then we truly have been blinded by the God of this age. That is why I’ve prepared a small, simple study for you on this blog, just to help you as a believer win this battle over your mind. By no means is this a complete and exhaustive study, however you will find it to be extremely practical, and if you apply the principles found herein, you will remain victorious!!!!
#1 Completely surrender your body and thoughts to God-
Romans 12:1-2 I beseech ye therefore brethren by the mercies of God that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world, but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove, what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

If I were to ask you what is the #1 excuse that those we witness too won’t come to church give, the overwhelming response would be…. “Churches are full of hypocrites!!!” It wouldn’t be said if it wasn’t true. The church house is the one place where imperfect people go to meet with a perfect and sovereign God. Still, there is no excuse for what folks seem to believe about us.
It’s easier to clean up the outside of man than it is the inside. Anybody can get a shave, a haircut, buy a suit and shine their shoes, and carry a big black Bible with them with all their family in lock-step behind him. It’s easy to follow the rules and learn the tricks of the trade so to speak concerning church attendance and decorum. Yet far too often what our church sees on Sunday isn’t what our neighbors, co-workers and family sees Monday through Saturday.
Ephesians 4:22-23 That ye put off concerning the former conversation of the old man, which is corrupt according to deceitful lusts:; and be renewed in the spirit of your mind.
The word conversation in the above verses simply means your manner of lifestyle or the way you act and live. We can’t expect to live free in a bound world being just like the world. If you haven’t changed internally in a greater spiritual sense as much as or as close as your outward appearance, either one of two things need to be considered. Firstly, you may need to spend more time alone with God in prayer and get rid of all of the outside interference's such as media, music, television, and worldly friends. Secondly, if you came to God just so you can get cleaned up, that’s not salvation, that’s idolatry and perhaps you’ve never truly been born again.
A Christian who truly wants to surrender his mind and body to the things of Christ will be willing make the daily commitment to completely surrender, nevertheless not my will, but thine be done.
#2 Let the cross of Christ be at the fore front of your mind.
Galatians 2:20- I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live, yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which now I live in the flesh I live by faith of the son of God who loved me, and gave himself for me.
It is at the cross of Christ where our old man has been crucified. We are to die to ourselves daily, in order to live fully and wholly for God. It is not enough for the believer to just make a mental note of what they must flee from and what they must put on or pick up regarding the Christian life. Have you honestly realized yet that even though you’ve been delivered from sin and have power over the enemy, you still need to walk in obedience to what Christ commands? Obedience is the key to crucifying the flesh daily.

#3 Be consumed with the Word of God
This ought to be a no brainer concerning every believer, but you know as well as I that most believers have yet to read their Bible through beginning to end. We tend to pick out portions of scripture we favor, and in turn we don’t grow as we should. 1 Peter 2:2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby.
“The Bible was not given to increase our knowledge, but rather to change our lives.” DL Moody
Growth as a Christian is not a one and done process. We must actively seek the face of God through the Word of God on a daily, systematic basis. Proverbs 7:1-3 My son, keep my words, and lay up my commandments with thee. Keep my commandments and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye. Bind them upon thy fingers, write them upon the table of thine heart.
Joshua 1:8 This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Isn’t it ironic, that the growing trend in Christianity is to preach about living a healthy, wealthy , successful life outside the church. Yet time and again, Gods Word proves to us that real, lasting and life changing success is not about becoming useful to the world and all it has to offer. No, real success is about not becoming a failure to the things of God.
